Strong's Concordnace is the universally accepted authority for those who want to learn what a word used in the Bible means. That concordance lists Bible words by number. As we check those words we have to be able to compare the sound of each word with the difficult to read Hebrew characters so we can "hear" what they sound like.

Doing that, we find that the Hebrew words numbered 2968 and 2969, taken together, are as close as we can come to "Yah." The word numbered 2051 is the sound, "weh" or "waw."

My interpretation of the Hebrew meaning of the word "Yah" is "suitable desire." The meaning of the word "wey"is "hook." (There is evidence that this syllable should be pronounced "waw," so I may need correction here.) If the meaning is "hook," though, give this some thought. It might give you a thrill. God our creator made the Universe because He desired companionship. That desire, as registered in the human sound of his primary name, is seen to be a pure and suitable desire. The thought expressed is much like the thought expressed by the Apostle Paul in Romans 12:1-2. If we understand the suitable desire of God, we willingly "present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is our reasonable service." His suitable desire should stimulate in us our reasonable commitment to Him.

So, how about the expression "weh?" Hook? Our Creator, with suitable desire, wants to "hook" us? Can that be true? Don't look upon this aspect of the word "Yahweh" as a threat. Picture that "hook" as God's outstretched arms, reaching out to embrace you.
